“The Provo Hockey League sends the Junior Team to Detroit”

The Turks and Caicos “ISLANDERS” are heading to Detroit Michigan to represent the TCI in a historic event.

This is the first time ever that a Hockey team will be departing from a Caribbean Country to visit and play teams from the United States.

The mayor of Detroit will be dropping the puck at the high school National finals tournament that feature the “ISLANDERS” as the halftime event as they play the United States Junior Bobcats. Currently in the top of their division and eagerly awaiting a chance at our Islanders.

The team will be greeted by press agencies from ABC and NBC, and interviews are scheduled with the players and coaches of the National Team from the Turks and Caicos.

Hockey Commissioner, Doug Camozzi says this is a proud day in the TCI when we are competing at the international level in a sport that only existed two years ago here in the Turks and Caicos. The Provo Hockey League represents the best youth hockey players, both boys and girls from our country and the future is very bright for the younger generations to be able to represent our country at this level.

The “ISLANDERS” depart to Detroit on May 18th to begin a 10 game series and return on May 23rd, with what will prove to be the launch of “In-Line” hockey in the entire Caribbean region! Plans are in the making to meet with representatives from the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Dominican Republic to establish “in-Line” Hockey in those territories and begin the international competition between teams from those countries. As a result of the new countries programs’ developing, TCI will be established as the “Hub” for Caribbean “In-Line” hockey.
